The main season of the Prague Zoo is now officially underway. With it, the public has been asking: what’s the best day to go? How can I avoid standing in line at the ticket counter? Do you offer any discounts? This and other questions are answered by an experienced Prague Zoo visitor in this list of top ten tips.
1. Sunday is more quiet than Saturday
The majority of people visit the zoo at the weekend. When deciding which day to visit the Prague Zoo, keep in mind that Sundays are always less crowded than Saturdays. You will not only find it easier to park but also avoid the crowds. Stats also show that Tuesdays are the least crowded days of the week if you plan to travel on a workday.
2. E-tickets are cheaper, and there is no waiting.
Waiting in line to purchase tickets at the cash counter? No, that’s not for you. A seasoned customer will buy an E-ticket at our online shop and proceed straight to the turnstiles. They also save money. The electronic ticket is 50 crowns cheaper than an adult ticket, a child ticket, or a student ticket. You can save up to 150 crowns if you buy a family ticket that is valid for two adults and four children.
3. Discounts available for schools and kindergartens
We’d also like to mention another great deal for school groups. Admission is only 100 crowns per student for primary and secondary schools and 50 crowns per child in kindergarten. Teachers can also choose from a variety of themed tours led by our expert guide. This is a great way to learn about biology and general science!
4. The new entrance and stop for public transport
The zoo is known for its iconic main entrance, the Walk of Fame and the large parking lot near the river. However, motorists use the south entry. Did you know we recently opened a new entrance to the zoo, which is located near the river and a large car park? Sklenarka is the name of the bus stop, which is located right next to our new gorilla enclosure. No crowds, no lines. You can also get the Dja Reserve for yourself if you arrive early in the morning. Mobi, the baby gorilla, will be there waiting for you. City buses stop outside the gate just like they do at the main entrance. Take the 234, 235, or 236 from Bohnice, and then head to Podhori.
5. Unexpected bonus of inclement weather
Are you thinking about going to the zoo, but is it windy, rainy, or cloudy? Get your shoes on and forget about such worries! There are 15 indoor pavilions. The Dja Reserve opened last year and has a large auditorium that allows you to not only see the gorillas but also charge your phone or have a snack. The giraffes and hippos can be seen in the Indonesian Jungle, while the orangutans, Komodo Dragons, and tigers in the Dja Reserve are kept dry. Plan your route indoors around Prague Zoo by looking at the map!
6. Enjoy a ride around the grounds with your family and friends.
Visits to the zoo don’t need to be tiring; they can be fun! Families can rent carts for free at the main entrance to pull their children around. Pre-booking our free wheelchairs or purchasing a ride in the ZooExpress with an expert guide is a great option for anyone with mobility issues.
7. Leave your bags at the shop and bring your dog along
We welcome dogs of any size at the Prague Zoo. Visitors are allowed to bring one dog on a leash. You can take them anywhere except inside the pavilions, interactive exhibits and play areas. If you want to see the animals at the pavilion, you can leave the muzzled companion at the tethering posts. You don’t need to carry heavy bags around the grounds – use the lockers located at each entrance.
8. Zoo grub in the 21st Century
A fried cheese, hot dog or ice cream cone. We have them all, of course! You don’t need to eat fried food or fat to stay energized. Gulab has a variety of meat-free dishes. Try the black lentils and halloumi with cheese or a vegetarian dish with pita bread. Every day, the Ocean restaurant offers a new menu of prepared dishes to its customers. A21t Obora serves fresh burgers that guarantee the best view of Prague. At the Gocar’s Houses, you can enjoy a delicious roast duck or tenderloin with cream sauce. You can enjoy a fine meal at the zoo.
9. Every week, visitors can enjoy free events.
Want to experience something special at Prague Zoo? Check out our program! You can enjoy a wide range of animal encounters and guided feeding sessions, no matter the season. For example, you can eat breakfast with amazing aardvarks or dine with penguins. Or you can snack with Siska, the famous popup. We also have a themed event every week. Free guided tours are included in the programme.
10. Don’t rush, observe, snap, record, share!
Our last tip? Enjoy your day at the zoo. Do not try to do it all at once. Prague Zoo is huge, so it’s impossible to see everything in one day. Take your time, and stop by the exhibits to observe the animal’s behaviour. Sit on the bench near the Hippo House or the African House. Take your time. Tag Prague Zoo in Instagram or Facebook stories if you manage to capture a great photo or video. We will be happy to post your picture on the official Prague Zoo profile!
